Federation brings the housing crisis to Parliament’s doorstep

A giant advert urging MPs to stop ignoring the housing crisis has been located in a place few of them can avoid – their private entrance to Westminster Tube station.
The seven foot long billboard – commissioned by the National Housing Federation – highlights the human cost of the housing crisis, which has left one million children living in overcrowded homes.
The advert lines the MPs’ entrance to the tube, meaning that many MPs and their staff are likely to pass the poster at least twice a day.
The Federation is urging MPs to sign a House of Common’s motion, which calls on ministers to safeguard the provision of social rented and affordable housing. So far the motion has been backed by over 50 MPs.
Housing campaigner, John Pierce, said: “We know that this advert is already having an impact. Recently, the MP for Birmingham Northfield, Richard Burnden, stated that the poster outside the House has brought the housing crisis to the attention of all parliamentarians.”
